Heavys H1H Headphones: Rock-Focused Audio at Half AirPods Max Price

Heavys has entered the premium headphone market with the H1H, a $274 over-ear model designed specifically for rock and metal fans. Unlike mainstream headphones that aim for neutral sound, the H1H uses an eight-driver system per side to emphasize guitar riffs and drum impact. The design prioritizes the dynamic range and frequency characteristics that rock production demands.

The headphones feature four drivers per ear cup: two handling lows and mids, two high-frequency tweeters. Designed by Axel Grell, former lead engineer at Sennheiser's HD 800 series, the H1H delivers 5 Hz to 46 kHz frequency response in wired mode. 50 hours of battery life and Hell Blocker ANC combine passive and active noise cancellation, while five microphones handle calls with an end-fire array for better voice pickup.

At 14.5 ounces, the H1H sits heavier than many competitors but lighter than AirPods Max. The reviewer replaced their AirPods Max for six weeks, finding the noise cancellation roughly equivalent in cars and crowded spaces, though AirPods Max performed slightly better on planes and trains. Both use similar ANC technology, making the choice largely about sound signature preference.

The H1H's unique selling point is its genre-specific tuning and artist-designed interchangeable ear cups featuring bands like Motorhead and Slayer. While not revolutionary technically, it successfully carves out a niche for listeners who want their music reproduced as intended, without the $549 AirPods Max price tag.
