Future iMacs May Get Handles or Docks

Apple has filed a patent for a "Low profile computer support" that could make future iMacs easier to move and transport. The patent details multiple concepts, including a removable dock that could integrate charging and other features, potentially allowing the display and computer components to be separated for flat-packing.

Another proposed solution involves a collapsible stand that could form a carrying handle or grip. These innovations aim to address the awkwardness of handling and packaging current iMac models, which are described as "overly difficult to move and inefficient to package and transport" due to their thinness and large displays.

The patent, credited to inventors including Paul X Wang, suggests that a dock could serve as more than just a stand, potentially housing computer components and offering wireless charging. Alternatively, the stand itself could be designed to retract into the computer body, creating a convenient handhold. While Apple does not explicitly mention the iMac, the patent drawings strongly suggest its application to the all-in-one desktop.
