Epic asks Supreme Court to reject Apple's appeals in ongoing App Store fight

Epic Games has filed a brief with the Supreme Court asking justices to reject Apple's requests for review, continuing the bitter legal battle between the two companies. The Fortnite developer argues that Apple's appeals threaten to undermine the entire case outcome.

Apple wants the Supreme Court to address two issues: whether the anti-steering injunction exceeded the case scope, and whether courts should consider the "spirit" versus the "letter" of injunctions. Apple claims the lower courts erred on both counts.

Epic's 35-page response systematically dismantles Apple's arguments. The company insists the Ninth Circuit did not rule based on the injunction's spirit, but rather on Apple's actual steering violations through its permission structure. Epic also argues that Apple's class-action theory doesn't apply to their case.

The dispute centers on App Store anti-steering rules that prevent developers from directing users to cheaper purchasing options. With a decision expected by June, this filing represents another procedural hurdle in a fight that has already reshaped mobile platform policies.
