Google Chrome has shattered browser performance records after a year of targeted improvements, with Google Chrome achieving record scores on industry-standard benchmarks using an M5 MacBook Pro. The browser's engineers focused on three key areas to deliver these significant gains, demonstrating Chrome's commitment to maintaining its market dominance.

Chrome scored 469 on the JetStream 3 benchmark, marking a 10% improvement from the start of 2026, while also achieving 61 on Speedometer 3.1 for a 5% year-over-year boost. These results came from JavaScript optimizations, WebAssembly improvements, and rendering engine enhancements including better style resolution and DOM operations using smarter caching techniques.

Google's announcement on June 4, highlighting performance gains on Apple hardware, coincides with Apple's WWDC starting June 8. The timing suggests Google may be attempting to position Chrome as the superior browser before Apple's expected Safari improvements, setting the stage for a browser performance showdown at the developer conference.
