Apple's Touchscreen MacBook Pro to Debut With M5 Chips

Apple plans to launch its first touchscreen MacBook Pro using M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. These new 14-inch and 16-inch models, codenamed K114 and K116, will likely arrive between late 2026 and early 2027. This timing suggests a delay from earlier expectations due to potential global chip shortages.

Beyond the screen, these laptops will feature a brand-new design, marking the first major visual overhaul since 2021. Reports indicate the devices will incorporate a touch OLED display and an iPhone-style Dynamic Island. This shift contradicts earlier rumors that the chassis would remain unchanged while adding touch functionality.

While the first wave sticks with M5 silicon, an M7 update is reportedly in advanced testing for late 2027. These M7 processors will prioritize heavy AI workloads with neural accelerators and expanded memory bandwidth. Apple may even partner with Intel to manufacture the base M7 chip for lower-end models.
