Apple tvOS 26.5 Arrives as Minor Stability Update

Apple has released tvOS 26.5 for Apple TV and HomePod devices. The update focuses on behind-the-scenes improvements rather than visible new features, making it a routine maintenance release. Build number 23L471 is now rolling out to compatible devices.

Users can update their Apple TV by navigating to Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software. HomePod and HomePod mini owners need to ensure their companion device runs the latest iOS, iPadOS, or macOS, then check for updates through the Home app. These stability updates, while unglamorous, are essential for keeping streaming hardware running smoothly.

This minor release follows a more significant update in tvOS 26.4, when Apple removed the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps entirely. Consumers can no longer purchase shows or movies through those apps and must use the Apple TV app instead. Previous purchases remain accessible through the Apple TV app, though the change consolidates all media purchasing into a single platform.
