Apple TV+ Wins EGOT Status in Record Time as 'Schmigadoon!' Sweeps Tony Awards

Apple TV+ has officially joined the EGOT club, winning Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and now Tony Awards in approximately six years. The streaming service achieved this milestone when 'Schmigadoon!' captured four Tony Awards on Sunday, including the prestigious Best Musical honor. This musical comedy series transitioned from screen to stage after Apple cancelled the show following its second season.

The Tony sweep includes Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Orchestrations. Stage producer Christine Schwarzmann humorously thanked Apple for the cancellation that enabled the theatrical adaptation. Both the television and stage versions were produced by Lorne Michaels' company, which also celebrated the show's evolution.

Apple's EGOT journey began in 2020 with Billy Crudup's Emmy win for 'The Morning Show,' continued in 2022 when 'CODA' won Best Picture, and added a Grammy in February 2026 for Chris Stapleton's song from 'F1: The Movie.' The achievement comes roughly half the time it took Netflix to reach EGOT status.

This rapid ascent demonstrates Apple's strategic investment in prestige content across multiple entertainment mediums. While Netflix pioneered streaming-original awards recognition, Apple has accelerated the timeline by leveraging theatrical partnerships and focusing on crossover appeal between television and stage productions.
