Apple Intelligence boosts Shortcuts automation

Apple has integrated Apple Intelligence directly into Shortcuts, enabling users to automate complex tasks with AI assistance. The new "Use Model" action allows Shortcuts to summarize, transcribe, and generate content dynamically across iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26.

This update transforms Shortcuts from a simple task automation tool into a smart workflow engine. Users can now create AI-powered automations like turning voice memos into polished emails or generating recipe ideas from grocery lists without switching apps or relying on third-party services.

The feature runs on iPhone 15 Pro, newer iPads, and Apple silicon Macs. It supports three processing modes: on-device for privacy, Private Cloud Compute for heavier tasks, and optional ChatGPT integration. However, older devices won't support these AI features.

Apple's approach positions AI as a background assistant rather than a standalone chatbot. The system includes a Follow Up option to refine results instantly, making it more adaptable to user needs. This shift could influence how consumers interact with automation daily.
