Apple Delays Mac Studio, Touchscreen MacBook Pro Over RAM Shortage

Apple has delayed the launch of its next-generation Mac Studio and touchscreen MacBook Pro due to global memory shortages, according to a Bloomberg report. The M5-powered Mac Studio, originally slated for summer 2026, is now expected to arrive in October, while the OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro has been pushed from late 2026 to 2027.

This marks the first major product delay for Apple amid the industry-wide RAM and SSD shortages that have already forced price increases and discontinued configurations. The company has weathered the crisis better than many competitors, but the AI boom has created unprecedented demand for memory chips. Apple has reportedly paid Samsung double its previous price for DRAM chips to secure supply.

The shortages stem from explosive growth in AI server demand, which consumes massive amounts of RAM and storage. While Apple could theoretically launch products with limited stock, the company appears to be stockpiling components to ensure adequate supply when new models do arrive. This strategic delay suggests Apple expects the memory crisis to persist well into 2027.
