Apple has brought back the App Switcher screen in the latest watchOS 27.2 beta after removing it in watchOS 27. In watchOS 26 and earlier, a double press of the Digital Crown opened the App Switcher, allowing users to switch between recently used apps and force-close misbehaving ones. In watchOS 27, that gesture was repurposed for Live Rewind, Apple's upcoming AI feature that provides a transcript of the last 15 seconds of audio.

User concerns about the App Switcher being permanently removed have been addressed, as Apple reinstated it in the second watchOS 27.2 beta released yesterday. However, the access gesture has changed—users now open the App Switcher by pressing and holding the bottom of the screen while in an app. Live Rewind will be available later this year on Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4.
