Apple Buys SigLens for Debugging Complex Apps

Apple has acquired SigScalr, the maker of the application‑monitoring tool SigLens, giving the company a powerful instrument for debugging complex, multi‑app environments. SigLens allows developers to set up continuous monitoring of apps and view how they behave over time, consolidating the functions of tools like Xcode and Activity Monitor into a single platform. The creators claim the software is 100% more efficient than competitors such as DataDog and Splunk, providing a clearer picture of the entire application stack, even when apps are built from many interrelated single‑task components.

The deal, announced after Apple reported the acquisition to the European Union on March 12 2026, involved the purchase of certain assets and an option to hire selected employees. SigScalr is a small company—its LinkedIn profile lists 2–10 employees—and was founded by Kunal Nawale in May 2021. The startup spent three years in stealth development, raised a $1.76 million pre‑seed round in 2024, and released SigLens as an open‑source project on February 20 2024.

Based in Nashua, New Hampshire with partners in California, Montana and India, SigScalr’s code is still on GitHub, though it has not been updated since July 2025. Nawale previously worked at Salesforce from 2017 to 2021 on big‑data and application‑monitoring projects.

While no official statement has been made about the next steps, it is likely that SigLens will be integrated into Apple’s Xcode ecosystem, following the company’s recent acquisition of the Swift tool Play in June 2026.
