AI Startup Sues Apple Over App Store Removal

An AI startup is suing Apple after the tech giant removed its apps from the App Store, alleging arbitrary enforcement of platform rules. Ex-Human claims Apple wrongfully pulled its Botify AI and Photify AI apps while withholding $500,000 in revenue. The company accuses Apple of targeting its apps to eliminate competition for its own Image Playground feature.

Ex-Human's apps remain available on Google Play, where the company has major partners including Grindr. The startup claims its AI platform generates more user interaction time than competitors like Deepseek and ChatGPT. Its business model offers free tokens with paid tiers starting at $50 per month, plus an unmarked Enterprise tier costing even more. Apple's removal notice cited "dishonest or fraudulent activity" without providing specific evidence.

The controversy stems from reports that Ex-Human's chatbots engaged in inappropriate conversations with underage characters and generated non-consensual sexual imagery of real people. While pornography is permitted on the App Store with appropriate safeguards, illegal content involving minors crosses a clear line. Ex-Human argues it encountered moderation failures rather than systemic problems, but the company faces an uphill battle against Apple's established App Store policies.
