Google's Wear OS 7 is now rolling out, bringing several new features to eligible smartwatches. While not a radical redesign, the update introduces Live Update notifications for tracking deliveries and scores, and enhanced media controls allowing users to route audio output to connected devices like smart speakers. The system also gains Android XR control, enabling wrist-based management of upcoming XR wearables.

Artificial intelligence sees a significant boost with Gemini updates, including a more fluid UI and Gemini Intelligence. This allows for triggering automated phone tasks directly from the watch and offers more context-aware suggestions by pulling data from apps like Gmail and Messages. Developers can create more dynamic widgets, and users can even generate custom widgets using natural language prompts via Gemini. The Google Contacts app receives UI improvements, and Emergency Sharing now allows opting in to share location with emergency services during critical events.

Wear OS 7 also includes a built-in Workout Tracker to streamline fitness app development and a system-level power optimization promising up to 10% battery life improvement. Samsung's One UI Watch 9, built on Wear OS 7, is expected to debut with the Galaxy Watch 9 series and may introduce new health metrics like Blood Pressure Trends. Eligible devices currently include Pixel Watch 4, 3, and 2, with older Galaxy Watch models and OnePlus watches anticipated to receive the update.
