Samsung Z Flip 8 vs Flip 6: Upgrade Worth?

Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 8 this summer, likely in July. The upcoming flip phone brings several upgrades over its predecessor, including a newer Exynos 2600 chipset, larger 4.1-inch cover screen, and a 4,300mAh battery with Qi2 support. The device will also feature the latest Galaxy AI capabilities and Gemini automation, though it may miss out on Snapdragon benefits found in some previous models.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6, now discontinued, remains a solid option for budget-conscious buyers seeking refurbished units. It launched with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and offers seven years of software support. While its 3.4-inch cover screen is smaller than what the Z Flip 8 will offer, the older model provides comparable performance at potentially lower cost. Battery capacity stands at 4,000mAh without Qi2 support.

Considering the $1,099 starting price of the Z Flip 7, the Z Flip 8 might cost between $50-100 more. For existing Z Flip 6 owners, the upgrade makes sense if you want the latest AI features and a larger cover screen. New buyers should weigh whether the incremental improvements justify waiting for the Z Flip 8 or if a discounted Z Flip 7 offers better value. The camera setups remain largely unchanged between both generations.
