Samsung Display's MWC 2026 Concepts: Privacy Screens and Slidable Phones

Samsung Display showcased several cutting-edge technologies at MWC 2026 that could redefine how we interact with screens. The company's Privacy Display technology, already available on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, uses a clever pixel structure to prevent off-angle viewing without the limitations of traditional privacy screen protectors. The system employs narrow pixels visible only head-on and wide pixels for broader viewing angles, with the ability to disable wide pixels for privacy.

Perhaps more impressive is LEAD 2.0, Samsung's next-generation OLED technology promising 5,000 nits of brightness while using less power and eliminating overheating issues. By removing the external polarizer found in conventional OLED displays, LEAD 2.0 achieves nearly nonexistent bezels while delivering brighter, more vibrant colors with expanded color volume. Samsung claims this technology could solve the common smartphone display headaches of thermal throttling and battery drain during peak brightness usage.

The most intriguing concept is the Mobile Slidable phone, which transforms from a 5.1-inch compact device into a 6.7-inch screen through a sliding mechanism. While still in development with no release timeline, this technology demonstrates Samsung's exploration beyond foldables into new form factors that could offer both portability and screen real estate in a single device.
