The long-teased ASUS ROG Xreal R1 AR gaming glasses are now available for pre-order at $849. Developed with Xreal, the glasses project a 171-inch virtual screen using a Sony 0.55-inch micro-OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate. Designed as an extension of the ROG Ally handheld, they feature Electrochromic Lenses that tint for focus and offer real-time 2D-to-3D game conversion.

This collaboration, hinted at since CES 2026, unifies hardware and software for a cohesive PC-like experience. Audio is handled by Bose for positional cues like footsteps. A ROG Control Dock and DisplayWidget Center allow system-wide virtual screen customization via keyboard and mouse, while AI tools and a frame rate booster aim to enhance gameplay smoothness and immersion.

Pre-orders opened at Best Buy on May 15, with the official Xreal store following on May 17 at 3 am ET. While the technology is ambitious, the high price point may limit initial adoption. The glasses target dedicated mobile gamers seeking a more immersive, console-quality display without a separate monitor.
