Oura has acquired Doublepoint, a Helsinki-based AI company specializing in gesture recognition technology. The smart ring maker announced the acquisition as part of its strategy to enhance user experience through more intuitive device interactions. Doublepoint's technology focuses on understanding small hand movements to create faster, more natural interfaces across different devices.

Oura CEO Tom Hale has remained tight-lipped about specific features, telling Bloomberg only that this acquisition represents a core capability for future AI and gesture-based interactions. The company emphasizes that these new capabilities will work in the background as "quiet, helpful features" without disrupting the health-focused experience users expect. Oura sees potential in both gesture controls and voice-powered features for upcoming devices.

This acquisition comes as Oura continues expanding its product lineup, most recently introducing the Ring 4 charging case in January. The company recently updated its app with Cumulative Stress tracking and a Blood Pressure Profile study through Oura Labs. While gesture controls generate excitement, Oura maintains its primary focus on preventive health, using technology to help users understand chronic stress impacts and identify potential hypertension risks.
