Google's Universal Cart Disrupts Price Tracking

Google's new Universal Cart transforms online shopping by automatically tracking prices and inventory across multiple retailers. The service, announced alongside Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini Spark, works across Google's entire ecosystem including Search, Gemini, YouTube, and Gmail. Once products enter the cart, Google monitors them for price drops, stock changes, and deals in the background.

Gemini integration allows the system to understand shopping contexts like custom PC builds and suggest compatible alternatives. Google Wallet recommends optimal payment methods to maximize rewards. Instead of being confined to one storefront, users can shop across Amazon, Walmart, and Nike with everything appearing in a unified cart, potentially replacing tools like CamelCamelCamel.

The Universal Commerce Protocol enables seamless checkout through Google Pay. Universal Cart begins rolling out in the U.S. this summer, with YouTube and Gmail integrations following. The service expands to Canada, Australia, and the U.K. later, giving Google a significant advantage in cross-retail shopping.
