Google is updating older Nest speakers with firmware version 3.79.550760, currently tested through the Home Preview Program. Eligible devices include the original Google Home (2016), Home Mini, Nest Mini, and Nest Audio. The Google Home Max is not included in this testing round.
Google expects a broader rollout over the next few weeks, though no exact date has been announced. The update aims to improve smart home integration and voice command reliability without a dramatic hardware transformation. Owners can join the preview via the Google Home app under Settings > Device information > Preview program.
The firmware installs automatically overnight. This move signals Google continues supporting its older lineup, extending usefulness for basic tasks like audio playback and device control. A separate October update also improves Gemini for Home conversations, weather responses, and app-based device controls.
