Google launches $99 screenless Fitbit Air tracker

Google finally released the Fitbit Air, a screenless fitness band priced at $99. The tiny 8.3 mm, 5.2‑gram module slots into interchangeable bands and offers 24/7 optical heart‑rate monitoring plus red/infrared SpO₂ sensors, a temperature probe, accelerometer, gyroscope and vibration motor. Data syncs to the new Google Health app on iOS and Android, and can be paired alongside a Pixel Watch.

Without a display, the Air focuses on passive tracking; it records steps, distance, calories, irregular heart rhythms, HRV and cardio load, then presents insights in the app. Battery lasts a week, and a five‑minute magnetic charge adds roughly a day. A new Sleep Score algorithm claims 15 % higher accuracy, while Smart Wake uses vibration to rouse users at an optimal sleep stage.

Most features work with a free Google account, but the Health Premium subscription—$9.99 monthly or $99.99 yearly—unlocks the AI‑driven Health Coach and deeper analytics. By supporting both Android and iOS and allowing simultaneous connection of a Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch, Google targets users who want continuous health data without the bulk of a smartwatch, positioning the band as a low‑profile alternative to Whoop.
