Gemini Personal Intelligence Comes to Android Auto

Google has announced that Gemini's Personal Intelligence is rolling out to vehicles, bringing the same tailored assistance drivers get on their phones to Android Auto. Once users grant express permission, Gemini can connect to Gmail, Photos, Maps, Search and Workspace apps, using that data to answer voice queries. Drivers can ask whether their flight is on time and what their gate number is, and Gemini will search their emails to find the answer without them having to do much else.

The feature can also suggest curated dinner stops along a driver's route and tailor those suggestions to needs such as being vegetarian. Another key capability lets users pick up where they left off. If someone asked Gemini about a coffee shop earlier, Gemini can resurface that detail the next time they get into the car and create a Maps route to get there. Google says drivers stay in control of what they share and do not have to share anything they prefer to keep private.

Personal Intelligence will arrive for cars with Google built-in "in the next few months." Users who already have the feature set up on their phone will not need to do much once it reaches their car. Those who have not yet configured it can do so from Gemini's settings.

Google has been expanding Personal Intelligence since its January debut, most recently adding it to AI Mode. Users can ask Gemini questions tied to their own situation, such as meal ideas that account for an allergy, or find details about their car's tires by having the AI search their photos.
