Galaxy Z Fold 8 rumored to skip Privacy Display and S Pen

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 series might skip several anticipated upgrades, according to a May 20 post from tipster Ice Universe on X. The Fold 8 reportedly won't adopt Privacy Display technology that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S26 series, leaving consumers without a built-in anti-snoop feature on their foldable. The tipster also claims the display crease won't improve over the Fold 7, and the S Pen won't return to the lineup.

The Galaxy Fold 7 earned praise for its thinner profile and durability—Samsung claimed it could handle 500,000 folds, translating to roughly a decade of use. Its crease drew criticism, though, making the rumored lack of improvement disappointing. Privacy Display blocked unwanted viewing angles effectively on the S26, so excluding it from the Fold 8 would mean giving up one of Samsung's more useful display features.

Without S Pen support and no crease reduction, the Fold 8 risks feeling like a minor refresh rather than a meaningful upgrade. Samsung's emphasis on keeping the device thin makes stylus integration unlikely anyway—the Fold 7 already pushed that boundary. Fans hoping for a more competitive foldable may need to temper their expectations.
