Android should steal these five iOS 27 upgrades

Apple unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC, adding a suite of features that feel more like upgrades than patches. Among the highlights are refined parental controls, a more capable Shortcuts app, and AI‑driven camera tools such as Siri Mode and Spatial Reframing. Android 17 introduced updated emojis and widget‑by‑description, but many of these new iPhone capabilities remain absent from the platform.

Android’s current Family Link lacks the granular time‑allowance system Apple introduced, which lets parents set limits by app category rather than individual apps. It also permits on‑the‑fly website approvals and automatic blurring of graphic content. Without a native automation hub comparable to iOS’s revamped Shortcuts, Google’s Pixel Rules feel limited, and Samsung’s Modes remain brand‑specific for families today globally now.

Integrating Siri‑style AI directly into the camera, enabling Spatial Reframing, and expanding Image Playground‑type generators would close the gap Apple has widened. With Gemini already powering Android’s AI push, Google could roll a system‑level automation app and a unified Lens experience across devices. Until those changes arrive, Android users will continue borrowing isolated features rather than enjoying a cohesive suite.
