Apple's upcoming Xcode 27 introduces native Google Gemini integration, expanding the IDE's AI coding capabilities beyond the existing Claude and OpenAI Codex support. Developers can now access Gemini directly within Xcode to handle complex, multi-step development tasks without switching between tools or windows. The integration represents Apple's continued push into agentic development workflows.

The agentic coding features first arrived in Xcode 26.3 earlier this year, allowing developers to plug AI assistants into their workflow for everything from boilerplate generation to project-wide updates based on documentation and file structure. Apple refined these tools with Xcode 26.5, adding message queueing and the ability for agents to ask clarifying questions for more accurate results.

According to Google, the Gemini integration enables developers to perform complex tasks during development through the Intelligence settings panel in Xcode. Once configured, Gemini provides an agentic experience for reviewing code, fixing bugs, and building new features faster than traditional methods.

Xcode 27 also brings broader improvements to Apple's agentic development system, including new interfaces, workspaces, interactive planning capabilities, and multiturn question-and-answer functionality. These enhancements streamline the development process for iOS and macOS applications.
