WhatsApp is developing a feature enabling channel administrators to label AI-generated media, in response to new EU transparency requirements for artificial intelligence content.

This feature, currently in WhatsApp's Android beta, will allow admins to tap and hold a message containing AI-generated images, videos, or other media and select "Add AI content label." This will add a visible label to the message bubble, informing followers that the content was created or edited using AI tools. The label, once added, may not be removable.

It is currently unclear if this labeling requirement will be global or limited to regions with specific legal mandates. The focus appears to be on media rather than AI-generated text. An iOS version and broader rollout are anticipated.
