The U.S. Department of Commerce is relaxing export restrictions for the United Arab Emirates, allowing eight U.S. tech giants easier access to advanced computing hardware. Apple, alongside Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and xAI, can now import specific advanced computing chips, servers, and related software and technology into the UAE without needing individual export licenses.

This change, effective July 14, streamlines the process under License Exception STA, which grants previously restricted items license-free access for approved recipients and end-users. The regulations govern the export of these powerful systems, ensuring oversight on their destination and purpose.

For Apple, this likely means a smoother path to deploying data center infrastructure in the UAE. While the company has not yet detailed its plans, the cleared hurdles significantly reduce administrative burdens for expanding its operations. This move could accelerate the deployment of AI and cloud services within the region by major U.S. technology firms.
