Activity-tracking platform Strava is expanding its sports categories with five new activity types, addressing long-standing user requests. The additions include basketball, cricket, dance, padel, and volleyball, giving 180 million global users more precise ways to log their workouts.

Previously, athletes practicing these sports had to record them under the generic "Workout" category, limiting tracking accuracy. Padel stands out as a particularly significant addition, reflecting its rapid global growth with an estimated 30 million amateur players worldwide. The platform now supports over 50 sport types in total.

Strava indicates this is just the beginning, with plans to add more sports and activities in the future, though specific details and timelines remain undisclosed. This expansion demonstrates the company's commitment to serving its diverse user base and staying current with emerging fitness trends.
