Apple has officially greenlit Severance season 3 following the massive success of its second season. The psychological thriller, which surpassed Ted Lasso in popularity on Apple TV, will return with significant creative changes. Production is set to begin in April 2026, with a likely premiere in mid-to-late 2027.

Writing for the new season started over a year ago, with Beau Willimon joining as a key addition to the creative team. The House of Cards creator was brought in to help manage escalating costs that reached $20 million per episode for season 2. While Willimon contributed to season 2's back half, his influence will be more prominent in season 3.

Ben Stiller won't return as director for any episodes, citing scheduling conflicts with another film project. This marks a significant shift, as Stiller directed 11 episodes across the first two seasons. Patricia Arquette confirmed the April 2026 filming start, with production running through December. The delay from previous seasons is expected to be shorter, though fans shouldn't anticipate a 2026 release given the extensive post-production required.
