The new desktop app offers integrated browser functionalities, aiming to streamline the user experience. For users who prefer their existing browsers, OpenAI also offers a ChatGPT plugin for Chrome, allowing integration without a full browser switch. This move consolidates OpenAI's desktop offerings, building on lessons learned from Atlas users.

ChatGPT Atlas launched on Mac in October. A dedicated Codex app followed in April with an in-app browser, culminating in today's integrated desktop application. This consolidation signals OpenAI's strategy to centralize its desktop tools.
