A new book titled "Steve Jobs in Exile" explores the lesser-known period when Jobs founded NeXT after leaving Apple in 1985. Author Geoffrey Cain spent years researching Jobs' "wilderness years" with unprecedented access to private company documents and unreleased footage from NeXT meetings. The book examines how these twelve years of struggle and failure ultimately transformed Jobs from a brash wunderkind into the disciplined leader who would later revolutionize Apple.

Scheduled for release on May 19, the book arrives during a year of significant Apple milestones - what would have been Jobs' 71st birthday and Apple's 50th anniversary. Cain's work promises to fill a critical gap in the Jobs narrative, detailing the spectacular failures and near-bankruptcy that preceded his triumphant return to Apple. The book features a foreword by NeXT cofounder Dan'l Lewin and an afterword by Pixar cofounder Ed Catmull.

With previously unpublished materials and interviews with key players, "Steve Jobs in Exile" aims to be the definitive account of how Jobs learned to lead and discovered the power of discipline. The book positions these formative years as the missing piece in understanding how a spectacular failure became the foundation for one of business's greatest comebacks, ultimately leading to the creation of the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
