Apple TV+ is venturing into the dating genre with its newly announced "documentary series," The Last Person on Earth. While not explicitly labeled as a reality show, it marks the streamer's first foray into dating content. The series will feature renowned couples therapist Esther Perel, who, along with a team of matchmakers and therapists, will expertly pair individuals who appear to be opposites. These couples will then embark on an adventure in romantic, remote destinations.

Perel described the series as a "bold exploration of relationships that challenges everything we assume about compatibility," encouraging participants to "drop the checklist and embrace dating as an adventure into the unknown." The show aims for an "elevated" feel, distinct from traditional reality TV. No release date has been announced, but it is anticipated to premiere around 2027.

This move signifies Apple TV+'s expansion beyond its typical genres of sci-fi, comedies, and thrillers. The streamer recently announced another adaptation of a romance novel by Rebecca Yarros. Apple TV+ is available for $12.99 per month or via the Apple One bundle.
