Apple to redesign AirPods settings in iOS 27

Apple is set to overhaul the AirPods settings UI in the upcoming iOS 27 release, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. The current menu, which appears at the top of Settings when a pair is connected, has become cluttered after features like head gestures, hearing‑aid mode, and sleep detection were layered onto a legacy layout. A cleaner hierarchy promises faster access to core controls.

The redesign will roll out across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, aligning the AirPods experience with Apple’s broader OS refresh slated for WWDC on June 8. While the Apple Watch and Vision Pro receive dedicated companion apps, AirPods remain embedded in Settings, but the new arrangement should reduce the visual noise that has plagued users since the first generation.

By reorganizing controls into logical sections, Apple aims to surface frequently used functions—such as automatic ear detection and spatial audio toggles—without forcing users to scroll through legacy options. The move signals that Apple recognizes the growing feature set of its earbuds and is willing to invest UI work rather than ship a standalone app. The updated screen will debut at WWDC.
