Apple has reached a settlement with former Vision Pro engineer Di Liu, who allegedly stole thousands of confidential documents before joining Snap. The case, filed in June 2025, accused Liu of downloading sensitive files during his final days at Apple and uploading them to his personal iCloud account. Liu worked on Vision Pro hardware and design engineering from 2017 until November 2024.

According to court filings, Liu resigned in October 2024, claiming he wanted to spend time with family, but had actually negotiated a position with Snap weeks earlier. Apple said he failed to disclose his new employer and maintained access to proprietary information during his two-week departure period. On his final days, Liu allegedly copied over a dozen folders containing thousands of files marked as Apple confidential.

Liu publicly apologized on LinkedIn, calling his actions a "lapse in judgment" and expressing regret for betraying his former colleagues' trust. The settlement requires Liu to return Apple's confidential information and pay monetary damages. Apple has a history of aggressively pursuing former employees accused of trade secret theft, including cases against engineers who joined startups or foreign companies.
