Apple has joined Google in opposing EU proposals to force Android open to rival AI services, submitting a filing criticizing measures that would give competitors access to Android capabilities. The tech giant warns these changes could create "profound risks for user privacy, security, and safety," particularly with rapidly evolving AI systems.

The European Commission proposed these measures as part of Google's compliance with the Digital Markets Act, designed to help rival AI services interact with installed apps for tasks like sending emails or ordering food. EU antitrust chief Teresa Ribera argued the changes would "give more choice to Android users about the AI services they use."

Apple contends the EU is attempting to redesign Android based on "less than three months of work," replacing decisions made by Google's engineers over years. The company specifically warns that rapidly evolving AI systems have unpredictable capabilities and threat vectors, making forced integration potentially dangerous for device integrity and performance.
