Apple reportedly exceeded $10 billion in annual sales in India for the first time in its last fiscal year, according to Bloomberg. The milestone is remarkable given the country's average annual salary of less than $3,000 and the fact that iPhones cost more in India than in the USA.

Revenue grew at a double-digit percentage rate in the 12 months through March from about $9 billion a year earlier. The iPhone 17 model sells for 82,900 rupees ($870) in India compared to $799 in the US, with high taxes driving the premium. iPhones accounted for a significant majority of sales, while iPad and MacBook demand also rose.

Around one in four iPhones are now made in India, though most are destined for the US market to avoid tariffs on Chinese imports. Apple has partnered with banks for credit card rebates to offset pricing, and the opening of Apple stores in the country has supported growth.
