Spanish satellite startup Sateliot and space engineering firm PLD Space have signed a landmark deal to launch two 5G satellites, marking the first private Spanish mission of its kind. The partnership will see PLD Space deploy two 160 kg satellites into low Earth orbit by 2027 using its Miura-5 rocket.

This collaboration represents a significant step for Europe's aerospace ambitions, as governments seek to reduce dependence on Elon Musk's SpaceX. Barcelona-based Sateliot aims to establish itself as a key player in Europe's satellite telecommunications market, with Indra holding a 4% stake in the startup. The mission supports broader efforts to safeguard European technological sovereignty and strengthen global 5G connectivity.

Sateliot previously outlined plans to deploy 100 satellites by 2028, targeting 1 billion euros in revenue by 2030. Meanwhile, PLD Space, which conducted Europe's first fully-private rocket launch in 2023, is positioning itself to compete with major players like SpaceX. The partnership demonstrates Spain's growing capabilities in the space sector and aligns with the trillion-dollar space market projections for 2030.
