Science Corp's $230M Bet on Brain-Computer Interface

Science Corp has raised $230 million in Series C funding, led by former Neuralink president Max Hodak, as it races to bring its brain-computer interface to market. The funding round values the startup at $1.5 billion, positioning it as a serious contender in the competitive BCI space. The company's lead product, PRIMA, is a tiny implant designed to restore vision for patients with macular degeneration.

PRIMA's development came through acquiring assets from French company Pixium Vision in 2024, then refining the technology and completing clinical trials. In trials involving 47 patients across Europe and the U.S., 80% showed meaningful improvements in visual acuity, with the ability to read letters and words. Hodak claims this marks the first definitive demonstration of fluent reading restoration in blind patients. The device has also earned a Time magazine cover.

The regulatory path is taking shape, with Science Corp submitting a CE mark application to the European Union, expecting approval by mid-2026. Germany is likely to be the first market due to its established pathways for early access to medical technologies. The company is also expanding trials to include Stargardt disease and retinitis pigmentosa. Beyond PRIMA, Science Corp is developing a biohybrid neural interface program that grows engineered neurons onto a waffle-like device for direct brain integration.
