Logistics Stocks Plunge 15% on AI Disruption Fears

Logistics stocks suffered their worst day since last year's tariffs as AI disruption fears sent shares tumbling Thursday. CH Robinson plunged 14.54% and Landstar System fell 15.60%, with the Russell 3000 Trucking Index dropping 7.8%. Drug distributors McKesson and Cardinal Health also slid over 4%, caught in the broader selloff.

Investors rushed to exit the sector after tiny AI logistics firm Algorhythm Holdings claimed its SemiCab platform helped customers scale freight volumes by 300-400% without adding headcount. The company's shares soared 12% despite reporting less than $2 million in quarterly sales and a $3 million loss. Analysts noted the selloff particularly targeted truck brokers, seen as vulnerable to AI disintermediation.

Some analysts called the reaction overdone, with Barclays' Brandon Oglenski defending asset-light transport names and seeing the selloff as "disproportionate to the risk." Baird's Daniel Moore wrote that the group appears at a cyclical inflection point driven by reduced supply. European logistics firms weren't spared either, with DSV A/S falling 11% and Kuehne + Nagel dropping 13% in European trading.
