Murray police discovered a hole dug under a Trax overpass at 425 West Winchester Street, allegedly by the same individual who tunneled under I-15 in September. The hole, found by officers patrolling the area, appears to be a makeshift sleeping space dug by a homeless person. UTA spokesperson Gavin Gustafson confirmed there are no immediate safety concerns.

This incident follows a similar case in September when Troy Jones, 46, was charged with second-degree felony criminal mischief for digging a tunnel under I-15. Court documents reveal Jones emerged from a six-foot-tall tunnel when police called out to him. The September tunnel cost $2,000 to fill with concrete, down from initial estimates of $10,000.

Jones will face additional charges for the new hole, which authorities say poses safety risks to the thousands of people who cross the overpass daily. UTA has already begun filling the latest tunnel with concrete to prevent future excavation. Gustafson emphasized that while the hole is large enough for a person, it hasn't impacted Trax service operations.
