U.S. forces began pulling out of their largest base in northeastern Syria on Monday, according to three Syrian military and security sources. Dozens of trucks, some carrying armoured vehicles, left Qasrak in Hasakah province, moving toward the Iraqi Kurdistan region. The withdrawal marks a shift in the coalition’s footprint.

Qasrak has served as a hub for the U.S.-led coalition fighting Islamic State, where troops have operated for over a decade alongside the Kurdish‑led Syrian Democratic Forces. A senior U.S. official said the pullout is part of a “deliberate and conditions‑based transition” as the Syrian government takes primary responsibility for counter‑terrorism.

While the U.S. Central Command has not yet commented, the move leaves only a single coalition base in Rmelan, near the Iraqi border. Analysts note that the withdrawal could reshape supply chains and affect regional security dynamics, potentially easing U.S. logistical burdens but tightening the Syrian government’s control over former coalition zones.

With roughly 1,000 U.S. troops slated for removal, the decision follows the Syrian government’s recent seizure of large swaths of the northeast from the SDF last month. The drawdown, expected to take weeks, signals a strategic recalibration that may influence future investment in regional defense contractors and supply contracts.
