The 256th Cyber Assault Division of Ukraine deployed a sophisticated ruse to expose Russian military reliance on Starlink, collaborating with OSINT groups InformNapalm and MILITANT. The operation created a fake Starlink registration service to extract geolocation data from Russian troops, who paid $5,870 for fraudulent terminals. This tactic exploited Moscow's desperation to bypass Ukraine's Starlink block, which restricted service to government-registered terminals only.

Russian soldiers interacted with Telegram bots posing as legitimate registration tools, unwittingly sharing terminal IDs, satellite dish numbers, account details, and precise coordinates. The campaign amassed 2,420 data entries and $5,870 in payments, with 31 Ukrainians recruited to assist Russian forces. InformNapalm allegedly lured troops deeper into the honeypot by highlighting a suspicious "russian_starlink" Telegram channel that remained unblocked.

MILITANT dubbed the operation "Operation Self-Liquidation," emphasizing its dual purpose: gathering intelligence and disrupting Russian communications. Collected data was forwarded to Serhii Sternenko, a Ukrainian drone logistics advisor, whose team reportedly retaliated by sending back packages marked with 155mm artillery shells. InformNapalm later confirmed the operation's success, stating its intended effects had been achieved. SpaceX's geofencing measure, implemented earlier this month, intensified Moscow's reliance on illicit Starlink access, creating vulnerabilities Ukraine exploited.

This cyber-physical hybrid operation underscores the escalating fusion of digital deception and kinetic warfare. By weaponizing Starlink's connectivity demands, Ukraine turned a logistical necessity into a tactical liability for Russian forces.
