Uber's Intense CEO Work Culture

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has confirmed his demanding work culture includes expecting employees to answer emails over weekends. The tech leader recently stated on a podcast that those seeking work-life balance won't last long at the company. Khosrowshahi implemented this approach after taking over in 2017 when Uber was losing $2.5 billion to $3 billion annually.

The strict expectations appear to be working. Last year, Uber generated $9.8 billion in free cash flow. Khosrowshahi explained that part of working hard includes sending emails on Saturdays and following up with questions on Sundays if responses aren't received. While acknowledging the demanding nature, he claims employees gain valuable experience and make tangible impact.

"Don't come here if you want to coast," the CEO emphasized. Khosrowshahi believes hard work is the most critical skill, not choosing the right career path. He applies this philosophy to his own leadership, stating he won't let anyone outwork him. This approach has become a core competency of success for Uber under his direction.
