Florida Governor Ron De Santis labeled the Republican Party's midterm election wipeout an "extinction level event," comparing the blue wave that swept across the US -- except his state -- to a meteor strike. Despite national GOP losses, De Santis touted Florida's resilience, noting Republicans won all top statewide races and a property tax cut amendment. He criticized Texas for flipping blue, calling it the "crown jewel of conservative politics" lost for a generation.
As he prepares to leave office after eight years, speculation swirls about his next move, including a reported potential replacement for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. De Santis warned the Texas flip will reverberate for a decade or more, labeling the outcome the political worst case scenario for a midterm election.
