Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned that Turkey could be pulled into a nuclear arms race if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, arguing such a development would reshape regional security and create pressure on neighboring countries. Speaking to CNN Turk, Fidan said Turkey remains opposed to nuclear proliferation but stressed that regional realities could force states into reassessing their options.

Fidan emphasized that Iran's potential nuclear capability would not be limited to Tehran, warning of a chain reaction across the Middle East driven by deterrence logic and heightened threat perceptions. He framed the issue as one of strategic balance rather than ideology, stating that the emergence of new nuclear powers in the region would increase the risk of escalation and miscalculation.

While insisting that Tehran does not intend to create atomic bombs and citing Iran's religious decree against nuclear weapons, Fidan argued that Iran's development of capabilities close to weaponization results in sanctions and treatment as if it had already produced a bomb. He called preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons a shared international priority, warning that once proliferation pressures take hold, "it becomes much harder to reverse."
