TSA PreCheck, Global Entry Programs Suspended Amid Shutdown

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has suspended TSA PreCheck and Global Entry airport security programs as the partial government shutdown enters its second week. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the suspension, citing the need to prioritize general travelers over registered program members during the funding crisis.

These expedited screening programs serve millions of registered travelers who pay for faster security processing. The suspension affects both domestic travelers using TSA PreCheck and international arrivals utilizing Global Entry. Noem stated that "shutdowns have serious real world consequences" and that TSA and CBP are focusing resources on the general traveling population.

The shutdown began February 14 after Democrats and the White House failed to reach a funding agreement for the Department of Homeland Security. Democrats have demanded changes to immigration operations tied to President Trump's deportation policies. The House Committee on Homeland Security criticized the administration's decision, accusing officials of deliberately disrupting travel to pressure negotiations.
