President Donald Trump's State of the Union Address drew just 27.8 million viewers, a 12 percent decline from last year's joint session address to Congress. The 108-minute speech marked the longest in history but failed to attract the audience Trump's team had hoped for, with preliminary Nielsen data showing the drop across major networks.

Fox News Channel led coverage with 9.1 million viewers, though it still saw a 15 percent year-over-year decline. ABC, NBC, and CBS combined for another 12 million viewers, while CNN and MSNBC each logged about 2 million, marking double-digit growth. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

This viewership decline follows a historical pattern, with both Obama and Bill Clinton experiencing similar drops after their first year in office. Trump used the address to tout his first-year achievements, introduce guests, and announce various awards, while Democrats staged protests including Rep. Al Green being ejected for holding an offensive sign. The ratings drop represents a significant setback for the administration's messaging efforts.
