A group formed to celebrate America's 250th birthday is offering personal access to President Trump for donors contributing at least $1 million, according to The New York Times. The 'Freedom 250' organization, announced last December, promises to create 'the most spectacular birthday party you've ever seen' with events including a marble arch in Washington, an IndyCar race through D.C., and an Ultimate Fighting Championship card on the White House lawn.

Beyond the festivities, Freedom 250 has emerged as another vehicle for people and companies with interests before the Trump administration to make tax-deductible donations in exchange for access. Meredith O'Rourke, the president's top fundraiser, is circulating solicitations offering 'bespoke packages' to donors. Those contributing $1 million or more receive invitations to a private reception with Trump and a historic photo opportunity, while $2.5 million donors are offered speaking roles at a July 4 event in Washington.

The arrangement has raised concerns about donors paying for access to the president. While a Freedom 250 spokeswoman claimed 'he can't be bought by anyone,' the group appears to be competing with America250, a bipartisan congressional commission planning more traditional semiquincentennial celebrations. The Times report suggests Freedom 250's Trump-centric approach threatens to overshadow years of inclusive planning for the nation's 250th anniversary.

The fundraising model mirrors previous Trump administration practices where financial supporters gained favorable treatment through government connections. Freedom 250's approach transforms what was meant to be a unifying national celebration into another avenue for political patronage and access trading.
