Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Global Fiberglass Solutions, alleging the company illegally dumped over 3,000 wind turbine blades in Sweetwater. The state claims Global failed to recycle the components as promised, creating massive stockpiles of industrial waste since 2017. Paxton is seeking over $1 million in penalties and immediate site cleanup.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, claims Global created unpermitted disposal sites, violating state solid waste laws. The company was reportedly hired to break down and recycle the turbine parts. Instead, investigators found massive amounts of waste. This situation highlights the growing challenge of wind turbine blade disposal.

The Attorney General is pursuing civil penalties potentially exceeding $1 million. The state is also requesting a permanent injunction to force removal of the waste within 180 days. This case underscores the environmental and financial implications of improper waste management, particularly within the renewable energy sector.

This legal action could set a precedent for other states dealing with the growing problem of wind turbine waste. As the lifespan of existing wind farms ends, the industry faces increasing pressure to develop sustainable recycling methods. The case is pending in Travis County.
