The investigation into Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping has taken a significant turn after police detained and questioned a man named Carlos before releasing him. Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her home between January 31 and February 1, with kidnappers demanding a $6 million ransom for her safe return. The FBI released surveillance footage showing a suspect wearing a ski mask, jacket, and gloves while carrying a weapon.

Carlos, a 36-year-old man, told the New York Times he was approached by police while in his car in Rio Rico, Arizona. He was detained for several hours before being released, maintaining his innocence throughout the questioning. The arrest came after the FBI obtained surveillance photos and video from Nancy Guthrie's doorbell and security cameras, marking the first real break in the case.

Law enforcement believes the kidnapper is from the Tucson area and wrote the ransom note sent to multiple Tucson TV stations and TMZ. The note promised to return Nancy Guthrie within 12 hours of receiving the ransom. This development follows earlier rumors about Savannah Guthrie's brother-in-law Tomasso Cioni being a suspect, which police quickly addressed, stating no suspect or person of interest has been identified at this time.
