Royal Caribbean has updated its prohibited items list for 2026 to ban smart glasses in certain areas on its cruise ships, including public restrooms, youth programs, medical facilities, and casinos. The policy applies to any wearable devices with built-in cameras and microphones, such as Ray-Ban Meta glasses, that can record discreetly.

This restriction aims to protect passenger privacy and prevent unauthorized recording of cruise operations. While passengers can still bring smart glasses onboard, they must switch to regular prescription glasses in restricted areas. The cruise line advises guests with smart glasses to pack backup non-smart eyewear for compliance.

Royal Caribbean joins MSC Cruises, which implemented a broader ban on smart glasses in all public spaces in late 2025. Industry observers expect other cruise lines to follow suit as these wearable devices become more common among travelers. The policy reflects growing concerns about privacy and security in shared spaces where passengers expect confidentiality.
